Here's a summary of responsibilities:

The USOPC's Legal Fellowship allows new attorneys to gain hands-on experience in a non-profit legal environment while assisting the USOPC Legal team in various day-to-day operations. The Legal Fellow will work closely with and report to the Deputy General Counsel. Specifically, the Legal Fellow will be responsible for drafting and negotiating various contracts, maintaining contract templates and policies, and leading the administration and management of the USOPC contract management system. The Legal Fellow will also gain expertise and provide support in fundraising law, dispute resolution, and athlete affairs. This assignment is anticipated to be 12 to 24 months in duration.

Here's how you'll have an impact:

  • Lead the management of the USOPC contract management system, including:
    • Conducting staff training on the contract system and corresponding policies on an ongoing basis.
    • Serving as the primary administrator for the contract system, responding to user questions and inquiries, and coordinating with the vendor and the USOPC IT department, as needed.
  • Manage USOPC contract policy development and management, including but not limited to providing staff policy training regularly and consistently working to improve and streamline the contracting process for business stakeholders.
  • Assist the Senior Counsel in their support of the People & Culture and Sport & Athlete Services divisions, including by:
    • Helping with operational matters, including, without limitation, assisting with drafting and negotiating vendor and supplier agreements, consulting and agency engagements, waivers, and privacy work.
    • Assisting with policy development and other substantive legal projects as needed.
  • In collaboration with other attorneys on the legal team, oversee the Games Delegation Forms for Delegation Events and any other event that the USOPC sends a team of athletes representing the U.S. Draft, edit, and review changes with Games Operations and other internal departments. Update relevant provisions following policies to safeguard against liability concerns.
  • Support the Associate General Counsel, Litigation & Dispute Resolution in litigation, dispute resolution, and fundraising work, as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Associate General Counsel, Marketing & International Affairs, and the Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property, assist with matters related to sponsors as well as researching new trademark applications, drafting letters to infringers, looking for specimens for trademark filings, and drafting responses to requests to use marks.
  • Communicate, collaborate with, and support the Legal team on other legal matters, as needed, and coordinate across USOPC legal personnel to implement efficient and effective cross-divisional legal decisions.

Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Admitted to practice law in the State of Colorado or ability to obtain membership in a reasonable amount of time
  • 0-2 years of professional experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good customer service mindset and interpersonal skills
  • Business software expertise, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Creative and collaborative problem-solving ability
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain complete confidentiality
  • Passion for sport and the ideals of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement

  • Hiring Pay: $84,000 per year.
  • This full-time, temporary, exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
