Primary Purpose of this Position:

The Attorney, General will perform a wide variety of legal functions for the business, with a primary focus in assisting the Assistant General Counsel/Regional Legal Leader in providing legal support and counsel to Balls packaging operations in North and Central America, Ball Corporations largest business segment. In this role, you will draft and negotiate customer and supplier agreements, and will help to maintain and update existing templates and contracting processes for our business. You will be expected to apply sound business judgment and ability to translate business and legal concepts into clear, legal drafting and legal advice to protect the business and achieve business goals. This role is ideally suited for an experienced lawyer who is eager to learn the details of our business, has an ownership mentality, and thrives in a team-focused, cross-functional environment. This role will not focus on employment, intellectual property, or securities matters, but some general knowledge in these areas is expected. Particular experience and knowledge in commercial law is a plus.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Collaborates with and supports the Assistant General Counsel/Regional Legal Leader in drafting and negotiating various agreements and commercial contracts including NDAs, sales agreements, services agreements, license agreements, and develops standard terms and conditions and other standard forms and documents for Balls packaging operations in North and Central America.
  • Conducts research into a variety of legal issues (including regulations, judicial decisions and legal articles) to provide clear recommendations to the Assistant General Counsel/Regional Legal Leader or subject matter experts.
  • Responds to requests for legal assistance or analysis from employees throughout the company in a timely fashion, provides legally correct and actionable legal advice to the business, and escalates requests to the Assistant General Counsel/Regional Legal Leader as appropriate.
  • Consistently provides creative, business-minded strategies and solutions that enhance commercial initiatives, avoid commercial and compliance risks, and promote Balls EVA approach to decision-making.
  • Prepares and reviews legal correspondence, forms and agreements.
  • Proactively manages legal risk for the Corporation by recognizing and characterizing them as they arise and advising the business on the appropriate action to respond to and mitigate the risk.
  • Flags and escalates appropriate matters to the Assistant General Counsel/Regional Leader and subject matter experts.
  • Assists internal clients or customers in their efforts to generate Economic Value Added for Ball Corporation.
  • Provides professional, confidential work product in a timely fashion.
  • Takes personal responsibility for quality and timeliness and endeavors to continuously improve services and relationships within Ball.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Maintains highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and personal ethical behavior and individual responsibility to clients or customers.
  • Proactively undertakes efforts to ensure Ball maintains compliance with the law.
  • Experience and knowledge within data privacy and/or trade compliance regulations is a plus.
  • While the regular working cycle of this position is usually five days on (Monday-Friday), this job may include working weekends (Saturday and Sunday); working hours may vary as specified by management. Incumbent must be able to work overtime on a regular basis and/or be on call as directed by management


What are we looking for?

  • Must have obtained a four (4) year undergraduate degree, a three (3) year law degree, and be admitted to a state bar, or local equivalent for locations outside the United States.
  • Admission to Colorado State Bar (by examination or motion or pursuant to C.R.C.P. Rule 203.2)
  • Job Related Experience: A minimum of 3 to 7 year(s) in the respective field of law.
  • Must have worked in a law firm or in a law department representing a large, sophisticated private company or a publicly traded company
  • Mastery and/or expert knowledge of functional domain (i.e. Commercial Contracts, Regulatory, etc).
  • Must have prepared relatively complex legal documents and persuasive communications.
  • Experience in working with global, multinational and remote teams in a matrix organization, with demonstrated ability to work across multiple critical paths in a collaborative manner. Business acumen.
  • Providing legal advice that is legally correct and appropriate for the business and circumstances.
  • Engaged people leader who demonstrates Ball Leadership Skills as described below.
  • Ability to apply independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of advanced legal techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Ability to effectively operate in uncertain environments with imperfect information.
  • Flexibility to learn new legal areas and topics even if outside of core experience.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of law in broad areas of assignments.
  • Skilled and effective in written and verbal communication appropriate for the audience; strong ability to engage and partner with stakeholders at all levels

Compensation & Benefits:

  • This role is based in Colorado and requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site for three (3) or more days per work week (with core collaboration days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Travel and local commute between Ball locations and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
  • Hiring Salary Range: $ 103,000 - 157,205 (Salary to be determined by the applicants education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
  • This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
