Our City Attorney serves as our chief legal advisor providing services and advice to the city government, Mayor, City Council, departments, and committees.

The City Attorney will join a high performing organization as a member of our collaborative executive leadership team. The City Attorney is responsible for advising City officials, staff, boards and commissions on matters pertaining to the law, codes, regulations, and legal procedures.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of legal expertise in areas related to land use law and municipal government, display a positive leadership style and take a collaborative and creative approach to problem solving.


The candidate selected will have the opportunity to live in and serve our beautiful community and make a positive impact on the City of Grants Pass and its citizens through collaboration with elected officials, city management, staff and engaged and inspired committee members.


The proposed work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 pm. with attendance at evening Council meetings required.

Attractive benefits package:
  • Vacation Three weeks for the first three years with the City (4.62 hours accrued per pay period), four weeks after third year with the City (6.16 hours accrued per pay period).
  • Holidays 10 days per year; additional 1 floating holiday per year.
  • Sick Leave 96 hours per year (3.69 hours accrued per pay period).
  • Emergency Leave 24 hours per year.
  • Health Plan Choice of dental and medical plans. City contributes 92.5% toward the employees premium plus a monthly $234 HRA/VEBA contribution.
  • Retirement The City participates in the Oregon PERS/OPSRP retirement system and pays the employees 6% IAP contribution.
  • Life and AD&D Insurance Equal to one times annual salary.
  • Long-Term Disability The City provides benefits at the rate of 60% of salary with a maximum monthly benefit of $9,000 and a maximum covered salary of $15,000 per month.
  • Deferred Compensation Program Four plans available for employee participation.
  • Flexible Spending Program Employees may elect to set aside monies pre-tax for out of pocket medical and/or dependent care) expenses.
  • Fitness Reimbursement - $40 per month towards monthly membership dues to a health/fitness facility upon meeting eligiblit.
  • Cell Phone Reimbursement Upon approval of City Manager, the employee may be requested to use a personal cell phone. The employee will be partially reimbursed each month, based on a fixed percentage of the minutes used.

A Juris Doctorate Degree is required; and two years of experience as an attorney with experience preferred in these areas: real estate, business transactions, employment law or land use.

Licensing Requirements (positions in this class require):

  • Oregon Drivers License Class C
  • Admission to the Oregon State Bar
