Position Overview:

The Employment Attorney will play a critical role in managing our legal compliance with all employment laws and regulations. This individual will provide legal guidance on employment law issues such as employee hiring, retention, termination, and discrimination. The candidate will work closely with HR and senior management to implement policies that enhance workplace efficiency and reduce legal risks.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance on a variety of employment law issues, including but not limited to, ADA, FMLA, EEO, OSHA, and Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, company policies, and severance agreements.
  • Lead the legal aspects of employment-related workshops and training sessions for management and staff.
  • Represent the company in administrative proceedings and court litigation involving employment matters.
  • Proactively audit company policies and practices to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Advise on risk management issues and propose proactive solutions to eliminate or mitigate risks.
  • Must be adept at managing high-stress situations and making crucial decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Handle employee relations matters involving legal aspects such as disputes and grievances.
  • Stay abreast of significant changes in laws that affect employer-employee relations.
  • Prepare detailed reports on a regular basis and present legal strategies and outcomes to senior management.
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel as needed to manage complex legal issues.
  • Skilled in using legal research platforms and business productivity software.
  • Competence in handling and mitigating potential crises with legal or public relations impacts.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years of proven experience in employment law in a corporate, Government or law firm setting.
  • Must be a member of the Texas State Bar.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local employment regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Experience:

  • Experience with immigration law, employee benefits, and/or international employment law is a plus.
  • Knowledge of legal frameworks and regulatory bodies affecting corporate operations.
  • Understanding of laws related to the protection of employee data, such as GDPR.
  • Proven track record of successfully handling litigation and dispute resolution.

Position Type:

  • Full-Time | Regular

Salary Information:

  • Commensurate with experience, based on 26 pay periods.

Typical Hours of Work:

  • 40 hours per week, Monday Friday
  • Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.
