General Counsel (Full-time & Part-time Opportunities)

Position Summary:

Provides legal advice on a wide variety of issues including pleadings, complaints, charges and other related legal proceedings. Provides legal advice to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Reviews documents for compliance and adherence to best practices. Acts as an advisor to the leadership of the Hospital.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Drafts and reviews a variety of legal documents, including but not limited to pleadings, contracts and amendments, and legal correspondence.
• Conducts research on relevant statutory and government regulations impacting the hospital
• Works with representatives from various departments to assist with legal needs of department, as assigned.
• Creates template agreements.
• Provides legal advice on structuring of new ventures and outreach activities, as assigned.
• Provides support to other legal counsel on hospital personnel matters, to include employee and labor matters, workers compensation, billing and collections and other matters.
• Confers with external legal counsel on a variety of legal matters.
• Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
• Provides expertise in the area of litigation management, compliance and HIPAA.
• Supervises external legal counsel in matters of ongoing litigation.
• Assists in discussions with insurance and re-insurance vendors.
• Provides legal expertise in contract negotiations and review of RFP’s.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of legal practice within the healthcare industry
• Experience in medical malpractice and hospital risk
• Experience in legal compliance within the healthcare industry
• Experience in contract drafting and negotiation

Education:

• Juris Doctorate
• Illinois Law License
