What You Will Do At ODM:

Job Overview:

The Ohio Department of Medicaid is seeking an attorney for our Managed Care and Eligibility unit. As Senior Legal Counsel in the Managed Care and Eligibility unit, your responsibilities will include:

    • Providing legal advice and counsel on matters including, but not limited to: Hospital State Directed Payments under HB33 (SFY24-25 Operating Budget) and related programs, and other state directed payments as permitted by 42 CFR 438.6(c), related contracts (i.e., contract administration, policies, and training), managed care programs, quality improvement projects, and member eligibility

    • Conducting legal research and exercising legal judgment and a disciplined analytical approach

    • Working collaboratively with other ODM staff and exercising judgment to elevate appropriate topics to Chief Legal Counsel and others

    • Providing legal advice and counsel in planning, directing, and evaluating agency-wide policies, program documents, and contracts for ODM operational units and program areas

    • Researching and drafting legal opinions, memoranda and other legal documents

    • Drafting and reviewing contracts, inter-agency agreements, grants, requests for proposals, other legal agreements, and procurement documents

The preferred candidate will possess strong legal analytical skills, be detail oriented, and be able to work collaboratively and independently.

Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code; 18 mos. exp. as licensed attorney; 6 mos. exp. in supervisory principles/techniques.

Supplemental Information:

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT.
Completion of 24 credit hours of continuing legal education from accredited programs for applicable two-year reporting period pursuant to Rule X of Rules of Government of Bar of Ohio. Current certificate of registration pursuant to Rule VII of Rules of Government of Bar of Ohio.

THIS POSITION IS OVERTIME EXEMPT. This position is unclassified per 124.11 (A) (9), Ohio Revised Code.

Candidates must provide a writing sample if selected for an interview. Travel required, as needed. Must provide own transportation. Or, in order to operate a state vehicle, you must have a valid driver's license from state of residence.
