Director, Schwab Compliance, Compliance Reporting is an important leadership role within Schwab Compliance serves as a key partner to Compliance Risk Management leadership, peers in Compliance, other second line functions, Legal and Internal Audit. A Director is a leader within Schwab Compliance with responsibilities for specific businesses and enterprise functions which operate through multiple regulated entities, and require facility with multiple compliance subject matter disciplines, including broker/dealer, investment adviser, banking, and others. As with all Schwab Compliance leadership roles, the Director role requires the successful leader to model and exhibit enterprise-wide thinking and exceptional collaboration to support Schwab's business as it is today and is evolving.

POSITION SUMMARY

Schwab Compliance is seeking a leader who will have ultimate accountability for Compliance Reporting, as well as leadership, guidance, and day to day management of the team of Compliance professionals supporting the function. This leader will be accountable to ensure clear, concise, and accurate communication with Schwabs Board Risk Committee, Senior Leadership, Compliance Risk Committees and Compliance Leadership which is an essential component of effective management of Compliance Risk at Schwab.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to build strong working relationships with business, internal audit, legal and second line partners. They will recognize the true enterprise-wide nature of this role and lead accordingly with a keen eye to the overlapping nature of risks and conflicts across various organizations. Additionally, this role will report to the Managing Director, Corporate Compliance.

Day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Work to continually enhance the firms compliance framework by ensuring efficient and effective reporting of Compliance risks and Compliance program activities.
  • Support the firms Compliance Risk Committee and subcommittees by creating, driving, and ensuring:
    • committee agendas capture relevant and timely topics and issues, including coordination of key Compliance risk deep dive reviews;
    • effective content and substance in all materials that reflect audience-appropriate and comprehensive information;
    • well-prepared, efficient, and effective presentations at committee meetings;
    • committee materials reflect superior and timely preparation, and are distributed at a minimum 7 days in advance of meetings;
    • accurate and concise meeting minutes.
  • Partner across Compliance department to meaningfully support content providers and audience with efficient processes.
  • Liaise across the firm and Corporate Risk Management to execute reporting processes and create/distribute reports as required by the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and related standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Managing Director, including projects as needed.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • 10+ years industry experience including demonstrated leadership experience, experience with Human Resources and/or Incentive Compensation regulatory risks and regulations.
  • Exceptional knowledge and practical experience with leadership
  • Demonstrated success in building efficient and successful teams to be highly collaborative and influential while building strong internal and external partnerships and providing effective challenge and guidance to varied stakeholders.
  • Thrives on initiating, building, and cultivating strong authentic relationships inside and outside the group; highly collaborative; navigates and activates alignment across organizational silos.
  • Leader who manages complex, multistakeholder issues with resilience, embraces others perspectives and understands the limits to their own points of view.
  • Embraces identifying, assessing, mitigating, measuring, and monitoring Compliance risks consistent with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and executive presence.
  • A degree is required, preferably in Business/Finance/Economics or related disciplines, post-secondary degree, e.g., JD, MBA or equivalent, viewed favorably.

A Director helps realize the strategic direction of the companywide compliance risk management program. Each Director in Schwab Compliance is assigned leadership responsibility for specific functions and programs and specific strategic and program objectives. Each Director in Schwab Compliance shares the same measures of success:

  • Personal ownership of their assigned compliance risk management responsibilities as team lead and shared accountability for the successful execution of the Schwab compliance risk management program.
  • Vivid day-to-day evidence of enterprise-wide thinking, bringing the full Schwab Compliance perspective to every aspect of the job, including exceptional collaboration and cooperation with peers on the Schwab Compliance leadership team demonstrating the lived values of #OneSchwab and #OneSchwabCompliance.
  • Demonstrated success attracting, retaining, empowering, and developing a diverse group of employees with the skillsets and expertise to identify, measure and manage Schwabs compliance risk effectively.
  • Enterprise-wide thinking is an approach that considers the entire organization, rather than an individual business or entity. It involves the holistic view of regulatory impact and business strategies. Collaboration, open communication, and alignment across teams are drivers for success. Enterprise-wide thinking means taking a big picture view.
  • Each Director in Schwab Compliance engages with key stakeholders and leaders at all levels across Schwab, and also is responsible for Schwab Compliances engagement with specific key stakeholders based on their assigned business support responsibilities. Certain roles may have specific industry subject matter expertise or licensing requirements.
  • Base Compensation: $116,100- $258,100. Your compensation may be different. Talk with your Talent Advisor to learn more. In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or other incentive opportunities.
