Lead Intellectual Property Counsel

DoorDash is hiring an exceptional Lead Intellectual Property Counsel to join our dynamic legal team. You will partner with teams across DoorDash to design, build and maintain DoorDash’s global intellectual property strategy and portfolio. You will help DoorDash navigate and address complex intellectual property issues as DoorDash builds new products and expands into new markets.

About the Role

As our Lead Intellectual Property Counsel, you will report to our Associate General Counsel and Head of Corporate Legal, and have an instrumental role in designing and implementing our global intellectual property strategy. You will work with teams across DoorDash to identify and protect DoorDash’s intellectual property, and build programs that promote the creation and identification of protectable intellectual property assets. You will work closely with DoorDash’s product and privacy counsel, litigation, commercial counsel and corporate legal teams on numerous legal projects that involve intellectual property issues. This position will require you to be DoorDash’s internal intellectual property expert, and in doing so you will be in a position to regularly advise DoorDash’s product, engineering, operations and marketing teams and help shape DoorDash’s product strategy and expansion in a meaningful way.

The legal team will be looking to this candidate to structure an intellectual property program at DoorDash that support’s DoorDash’s business strategy. In doing so, you must be a self-starter that takes ownership over complex projects and initiatives, and you must be hand-on, addressing the lowest level of detail. You must also have excellent analytical, communication and leadership skills.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

Lead the development, protection and maintenance of DoorDash’s intellectual property portfolio

Effectively manage outside IP counsel in the drafting and prosecution of patent and trademark applications globally, and performing freedom-to-operate analyses

Work closely with product, engineering and marketing teams regarding IP strategy and the identification of patentable inventions, including by overseeing the company’s Patent Committee Meetings and designing invention incentive and education programs

Collaborate with the commercial legal team to draft agreements regarding the use, transfer or ownership of intellectual property

Collaborate with the litigation team regarding litigation involving intellectual property

Provide support for corporate development activities, including licensing and acquisitions of intellectual property

Qualifications

J.D. required, admitted to any state bar.

A minimum of 8+ years legal experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department related to intellectual property

Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage projects effectively
