Basic Purpose of the Job:
Under general supervision, assists in performing the legal departments responsibilities to the City organization.Essential Functions:

  • With the direction and supervision of the City Attorney, assists in providing legal advice to the City Council, City Manager, Department Heads and other City employees.
  • Provide legal assistance in matters involving land use, employee relations, taxation, real estate, contracts, procurement, law enforcement and miscellaneous matters.
  • Performs legal research as necessary.
  • Assist in directing outside counsel as requested by the City Attorney.
  • Prosecute cases in the Municipal Court.
  • Assist in the preparation of pleadings, legal opinions, notices, contracts, agreements, leases, permits, deeds, options, bonds, resolutions, ordinances, formal letters and other legal documents involved in municipal proceedings and operations.
  • Attend meetings of the City Council and Planning Commission. Attend conferences as directed.

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
  • Zero (0) to two (2) years experience in the legal field.
Licensures & Certificates (must be active and current.):
  • State of Colorado Law License or able to obtain within 6 months from time of date of hire.
  • Current Colorado drivers license with acceptable record.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 25 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer; vision for reading and preparing written reports and documents; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens. Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment; makes occasional visits to City work sites, other City offices, and location within the community as needed or upon request.Late applications will not be accepted.
