Adapture Renewables, Inc. is an expert in developing, financing, engineering, building, and operating utility-scale photovoltaic systems and battery energy storage systems. Drawing upon an extensive knowledge base, we realize projects with speed, flexibility, and high quality. Our Legal team is looking for a talented General Counsel to help support the efforts of our fast-growing company. Adapture Renewables is owned by KIRKBI – the private holding and investment company of the Kirk Kristiansen family founded to build a sustainable future for the LEGO® brand through generations.

Overview

This position will report to the CFO and will be responsible for leading the Company’s legal function, including managing our Legal team, supporting the Company’s legal affairs, and serving as trusted legal advisor to the senior executive team. The candidate will ideally be based near our Bay Area home office.

Core Responsibilities

Provide strategic legal guidance and counsel to the Company’s C-Suite and senior leadership on a wide range of matters.

Leading, developing, and managing a team of lawyers and non-lawyers. Provide oversight and mentorship to the legal team, fostering a culture of collaboration, and integrity.

Oversee all legal affairs of the company including contract negotiations, licensing agreements, and dispute resolution. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards related to solar and energy storage projects.

Oversee legal matters pertaining to energy project development, M&A, joint ventures, offtake, EPC, and financing transactions for the Company.

Manage relationships with external legal counsel and other professional service providers to ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery of legal services.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders including project development, finance, and operations teams to address legal issues and achieve business objectives.

Keep abreast of legal and regulatory developments affecting the renewable energy industry and proactively advise on potential impacts to the business.

Qualifications and Experience

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Admitted to practice law in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with at least 5 years in a senior legal role as a corporate generalist at a renewable energy firm, ideally in photovoltaic (PV) and/or energy storage; ideal candidate has in-house experience as a General Counsel or Deputy General Counsel, with a demonstrated track record of successfully closing deals.

Strategic leader with high levels of EQ, executive presence, gravitas, strong relationship building, and executive level communication skills to support a fast-growing organization.

Strong knowledge of renewable energy law, including familiarity with relevant federal, state, and local regulations governing solar and energy storage projects.

Strong understanding of contracts and agreements related to renewable energy project development, construction, financing, and operations.

Proven track record of effectively managing complex legal issues, assessing risk, and providing strategic advice to senior management.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments and functions to achieve business goals while managing legal risks. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with experience leading, mentoring individuals, and developing high-performing legal teams.
