About this role

We are looking for a self-motivated, organized and creative lawyer to join Faires legal department. This person will have a broad and diverse range of responsibilities, providing legal guidance to support Faire throughout all phases of the product development life cycle while managing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. They will tackle topics such as privacy, data security, payments, marketing, and intellectual property that arise out of the operation and growth of an international wholesale marketplace business.

What youll do

  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of applicable laws and regulations arising from the operation and growth of an international wholesale marketplace business, help to craft our response to changing regulatory environments, and provide training to business teams on relevant regulatory topics
  • Drive compliance policies and processes relating to product development, privacy, security and data protection across multiple jurisdictions
  • Support implementation of internal controls and corporate policies, including maintenance of our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, Data Retention and Deletion Policy, Signature Authority Policy, and others
  • Monitor compliance with Faires insurance obligations and oversee insurance renewal process
  • Partner closely with our global product, engineering and business teams to advise on a range of issues including product development, financial services regulations, payments, consumer protection, market expansion, data privacy and intellectual property
  • Provide legal advice on issues related to compliance with anti-money laundering and sanctions laws and the development and enhancement of global, risk-based anti-money laundering programs
  • Work collaboratively to build Faires legal and regulatory structure and support strategic partnerships
  • Forge effective relationships with external counsel and regulators

Preferred Qualifications

  • Law degree and admitted to practice in at least one US jurisdiction (preferably NY or CA)
  • 7+ years combined experience in a law firm, in-house legal department and/or government agency
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Privacy (including GDPR), data security, intellectual property law, sanctions, and fintech, or financial services laws and regulations such as UDAAP, Reg E, and BSA/AML
  • Excellent business communication and analytical skills, as well as an impeccable attention to detail and strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Ability to distill complexity and to identify and clearly communicate practical, risk-based solutions
  • Ability to effectively advance innovative products while balancing risk to the broader company

Salary Range

California / New York: the pay range for this role is $221,000 to $303,500 per year.

Colorado / Washington / New Jersey: the pay range for this role is $199,000 to $273,500 per year.

This role will also be eligible for equity and benefits. Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands, and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Roles with only a city location are eligible for in-office or hybrid office work in that city.
