Branch is searching for a pragmatic, collaborative, and whip-smart Senior Counsel to lead the Employment legal function at Branch. As Senior Employment Counsel, you will report directly to the Vice President of Legal that leads the legal team at Branch and play a critical role at the company. You will own the employment legal function at Branch and play a critical role in advising our People team and other cross-functional partners on all employment issues.

As a Senior Employment Counsel, youll get to:

  • Strategic Partner. Provide strategic guidance to our People team on how to attract, retain and motivate our high performers to reach their potential as well as advise on employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Subject Matter Expert. Stay abreast of worldwide employment laws and regulations and provide practical advice to relevant stakeholders across the business on the impact to Branchs business and people. Advise on best practices related to hiring, termination, discrimination, harassment, and other employment-related matters.
  • Policy Development and Implementation. Lead, and strategically enhance, Branchs employment and HR policies and procedures to align with legal requirements and Branchs business growth. Build strong relationships with cross-functional partners to implement, communicate and train our teams and foster a positive work environment that aligns with Branchs values.
  • Contract Review and Negotiation. Review, draft, and negotiate employment-related agreements, including offer letters, employment contracts, and separation agreements.
  • Litigation Management. Manage employment-related litigation matters, working closely with external counsel when necessary. Develop strategies to minimize legal risks and achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Flex to Other Areas. Willingness and desire to pitch in on other practice areas, specifically corporate.

Youll be a good fit if you have:

  • Exceptional integrity.
  • 5+ years of legal experience.
  • J.D. and membership in at least one state bar.
  • Experience in advising tech companies.
  • A deep understanding of, and an insatiable curiosity regarding, employment law, HR best practices, and industry trends.
  • A communication style that allows for legal issues to be effectively delivered in emotionally charged situations.
  • Rock-solid business judgment, including an ability to calibrate for when we need a quick response versus a deep dive to get something exactly right.
  • Demonstrated the ability to pick things up at blazing speed and work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage projects and deadlines with little guidance.
  • Highly-responsive and service-oriented approach to driving projects to closure.

Nice To Haves:

  • In-house legal experience in employment legal, particularly at a high-growth tech company.
  • Experience in the B2B SaaS industry.
  • Experience in the martech or adtech industries.
  • Experience in corporate, governance and/or M&A

In accordance with applicable law, the following represents a reasonable estimated compensation range for this role: the estimated pay range for this role, if based in Remote CAis $190,000 - $243,000.

Please note that this information is provided for those hired in Remote CA only. Compensation for candidates outside of Remote CAwill be based on the candidates specific work location.

Actual compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location and may be more or less than the amount shown above.

This role is 100% remote in California. This role is not eligible for remote work in any other location.
