Pacific Life is investing in dynamic and agile talent to contribute to our mission of innovating our business and creating a superior customer experience. We are actively seeking a Sr Contracts Attorney with sharp analytical and communication skills who is diligent, proactive, collaborative, and has demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking. This role will support our Procurement and Third-Party Risk Management teams. This role will be hybrid (2-3 days a week in office) in Newport Beach, CA.


How you will make an impact:

  • Serve as partner to the Procurement and Third-Party Risk Management teams and the applicable business unit to draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, in addition to mitigating business and legal risk.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to identify contractual legal risks and develop strategies to calibrate those risks with relation to the business needs.
  • Develop and maintain policies, playbooks, and procedures to help the organization achieve efficient, reproducible results in the contracting process.
  • Assist in developing and periodically reevaluating contract term libraries.
  • Work with the Procurement team to implement best practices in procurement, conduct training on contract issues, internal policies, and procedures, and continuously improve the procurement and legal process.
  • Monitor relevant regulatory, legislative, litigation, and industry trends related to vendor management and contracting and keep clients informed of the potential impact on the Company.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • A willingness to embrace and become an expert in new areas of law as needed to evolve is essential.

The experience you will bring:

  • At least 7-10 years relevant experience in contract review as a practicing in-house attorney.
  • Law degree from ABA accredited law school and current bar membership.
  • Extensive experience reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of supplier contracts, including technology contracts, (SaaS, AI, and on-premise), services agreements, SOWs, amendments and renewals, NDAs, and BAAs.
  • Strong experience with contract drafting, negotiations, dispute resolution processes (litigation, mediation, and arbitration).
  • Expertise in negotiating contracts and partnering directly with various internal business clients.
  • Demonstrates high ethical standards.
  • Demonstrates leadership competencies and an ability to learn and become a subject matter expert in highly technical or highly regulated additional areas of practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; adept at prioritizing work and providing advice under deadlines; a focus on business enablement; and experienced in translating complex policies and laws into practical business controls.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the companys good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$159,660.00 - $195,140.00
