The Wyoming Attorney Generals Office seeks qualified applicants to provide professional legal representation to the Wyoming Department of Insurance, the Wyoming Retirement System, the Public Service Commission, the Wyoming Department of Revenue, and the Administration and Information - Human Resources Division. This attorney will assist these agencies and others with advice on legal matters on a day-to-day basis, represent clients in litigation and appeals, draft formal legal opinions, review contracts, and review administrative rules and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Advise agency clients with respect to relevant policies, pending litigation, case law, statutes, and rules related to the agency's statutory duties.
  • Litigating cases in state and federal trial and appellate courts, as well as administrative contested cases.
  • Conducting extensive legal research.
  • Drafting, revising, and editing pleadings, briefs, letters, and other written work products.
  • Working collaboratively with agency staff and with other members of the Wyoming Attorney Generals Office.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with substantive and procedural law for state and federal courts and administrative agencies;
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with the law of evidence and procedure;
  • Skill in legal research, including drafting legal memoranda and briefs presenting results and conclusions in the advocates position;
  • Skill in organizing ideas and legal principles in clear and concise oral and written presentations; and
  • Ability to manage large amounts of information and analyze it for legal impact.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:
Juris doctorate.


NOTES:

  • FLSA: Exempt
  • Successful applicants are required to pass a criminal background investigation.
  • This is an at-will position. The attorney will be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Attorney General (Wyo. Stat. Ann. § 9-1-608).
  • Salary is commensurate with relevant legal experience.
