The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Legislative Counsel.

General Description
Provides legal advice regarding federal, state, municipal legislative and administrative matters.
Works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires graduation from an accredited law school.

Requires six (6) years experience in professional legal work, including four (4) years experience in the federal or state legislative process and/or lobbying and experience in the supervisory aspects of the work.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Active member of The Florida Bar, in good standing, at the time of application is required.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Provides legal advice regarding federal, state, municipal legislative and administrative matters.

Reviews legislation, policy, briefs, and cases for Broward County; formulates position papers, talking sheets, and legal memos; performs administrative functions; works with staff to research policy initiatives by legislative or executive agency action.

Compile reports for dissemination to the Board, Administration, or Legislative Liaisons.

Implements lobbying and advocacy campaigns, each campaign is executed under the auspices of the State and Federal Programs.

Travels with Director or Assistant Director to persuade lawmakers to effectuate change in the county's best interest.

Reviews agenda items relating to the State and Federal Programs, advisory board appointments, and possible funding opportunities for the counties.

Review grant proposals, administer after action items required by funding entities, and collaborate on process efficiencies for leveraging funding opportunities.

Works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

Performs related work as assigned.
