Instead of looking at identity as a problem to solve through authentication, weve realized that the context is much bigger and more exciting. Our solution enables users to co-own their data with the platforms they create that data with, and then gives them the ability to share, give, distribute and even monetize that data as we put the individual at the center of their electronic universe and create the worlds first digital genome.

Our company is founded by leading inventors and investors in the crypto space, and includes founders of some of the top 4-5 crypto projects by market cap. With the expertise we have in the space, the experience we have across our founders, and the excitement around this particular type of technology, we are confident that this project takes on a life of its own. We want to be sure were enlisting the help of the right people to help us on that journey.

SELF ID has recently closed a seed round of funding and is launching this fall.

Associate Counsel

SELF ID is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Associate Counsel to join our team. The Associate Counsel will play a vital role in supporting the Company in various legal matters, including contract review, regulatory compliance, and assisting in corporate governance issues. This position combines Corporate Counsel and Product Counsel duties and offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated legal professional to grow and develop their skills in a dynamic startup environment.

This is a full-time role reporting to the COO that can be held anywhere in the world. (We are open to considering more experienced or senior applicants who are interested in a part-time/fractional position).

What youll do at SELF ID:

  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, partnership agreements, licensing agreements, and service agreements.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on various legal issues to support decision-making and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess legal risks associated with business initiatives, product development, and operational activities.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing corporate records, including board meeting minutes, resolutions, and corporate governance documents.
  • Support the Leadership team in managing relationships with external counsel and third-party advisors as needed.
  • Handle day-to-day legal inquiries from different departments and provide guidance and advice as required.
  • Advising on product design to ensure compliance with laws (like privacy laws, consumer protection laws, and intellectual property laws)
  • Drafting terms of service and privacy policies, and guiding the company on regulatory matters specific to the industry the product operates in

What Excites Us:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the state Bar Association or eligibility for in-house counsel registration.
  • 3-5 years of experience practicing law, preferably with exposure to corporate law, contract review, or related areas either in-house or at a reputable law firm.
  • In-house Product Counsel experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and analyze contracts with attention to detail and a strong understanding of legal principles.
  • Familiarity with corporate governance practices and an understanding of regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Salary Range: $125,000-$150,000 per annum + equity
