At MFS, you will find a culture that supports you in doing what you do best. Our employees work together to reach better outcomes, favoring the strongest idea over the strongest individual. We put people first and demonstrate care and compassion for our community and each other. Because what we do matters to us as valued professionals and to the millions of people and institutions who rely on us to help them build more secure and prosperous futures.
What you will be responsible for:
The Legal Fellow will have the unique opportunity to experience all aspects of in-house legal support at MFS Investment Management and will actively assist our attorneys with the delivery of legal services in support of MFS' investment management services business.
The Fellow will rotate through several U.S.-based practice areas in an 18-month fellowship, gaining a working understanding of the major legal and regulatory areas that are important to the business of a major international asset manager. Among others, these include each of the practice areas:
Regulation of investment advisor services
Regulation of investment products, such as mutual funds
Legal support for investments and trading
Commercial agreements with business partners
Corporate governance and corporate legal matters
The Fellow's experience will encompass working on a variety of legal, compliance and transactional matters, such as compliance and reporting, capital markets, intellectual property, investment securities, litigation and corporate governance. The Fellow will conduct legal research, draft memoranda and business correspondence relating to that research, present the results to our attorneys and internal business partners, and gain experience reviewing and drafting contracts and disclosure documents. The Fellow will actively participate in business and industry meetings/conference calls, and complete assignments that will benefit both the Fellow and MFS.
This will be the third Fellowship in a row offered by the MFS Legal Department. Throughout the 18-month long program, the Fellow will be guided and assisted by one senior attorney who will oversee the program. The Fellow will also be assigned a formal mentor relationship with another in-house attorney within each of the MFS Legal Departments four U.S. practice groups through which the Fellow will be rotating.
The program will begin in September of the graduating year, with the exact start and end dates to be determined by MFS and the selected Fellow. The Fellow will work in a hybrid format combining remote and in-person work in our Boston, Massachusetts office.
The Fellows compensation will be paid by MFS at a rate generally commensurate with the compensation of a first-year lawyer employed by MFS or other comparable asset management firms. The Fellow will receive standard benefits available to all MFS employees during the fixed employment relationship with MFS.
