General Shale, Inc., the nation's leading manufacturer of brick, masonry siding, and outdoor hardscape products, is seeking an In-House Counsel at our corporate office in Johnson City, TN. The In-House Counsel position is within the Legal Department. This position will report to the Lead Attorney.

General Shale is looking for a proactive and skilled In-House Counsel with a minimum of 2 years of experience in corporate counsel or attorney positions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice and support on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including but not limited to contracts, lease agreements, mine leases, licenses, and partnerships.
  • Provide legal counsel on corporate governance, compliance, and regulatory matters.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support business decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including executives, finance, HR, and operations, to address legal issues and mitigate risks.
  • Manage external legal counsel as needed.
  • Stay current with relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the state bar and in good standing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a corporate counsel or attorney role, preferably in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of corporate law, anti-trust law, worker’s compensation law, contracts, and commercial transactions.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

For appointment as In-House Counsel, an applicant must be a law school graduate from a law school of recognized standing and have demonstrated at minimum one of the following accomplishments or proficiencies:

  • Graduation in the upper half of a law school class;
  • Experience on the editorial board of a law review or a moot court board;
  • Graduation from law school with an LLM or MBA degree; or
  • Proficiency in legal studies that, in the opinion of the employer, is the equivalent of one of the above.
